10th anniversary of the Zbor sv. Nikolaja

The Zbor sv. Nikolaja choir, conducted by Helena Fojkar Zupančič, prepared a grand concert in honour of its 10th anniversary, at which it charmed the listeners with a colourful selection of music pieces from the time of the Middle ages to present day.

With the first piece - the gregorian chorale Veni Creator Spiritus (Come, Creator Spirit) the choir created the mystical atmosphere of the medieval Church and using crystal clear sounds, was inviting the Holy Spirit. There were two more chorale-related pieces in the first part of the concert - Ubi Caritas and Pater Noster, followed by a selection of sacred works by contemporary authors - Ave Maria, Salve Regina, Libera Me and Lux Aurumque.



In the second part of the concert the choir again sailed into more mystical waters with the composition of Damijan Močnik Sacra Religio and concluded the second part with the latest composition of the american composer Eric Whitacre Cloudburst in cooperation with Veronika Hauptman at the clavinova and the ensemble Perkakšns. Especially beautiful was the newly written piece by the promising composer Črt Sojar Voglar Popotnik, which he dedicated to the Zbor sv. Nikolaja choir and Helena Fojkar Zupančič.



The choir received congratulations from the archbishop of Ljubljana Alojzij Uran, who granted Helena Fojkar Zupančič a recognition award for her long successful work and her special care for the development of church music. The mayor of Litija mr. Franci Rokavec thanked the choir for its years of hard work and awarded it with the plaquette of Brodar na Savi. Choir also received congratulations from the chairman of Public fund for cultural activities mrs. Mihela Jagodic, who presented the choir with a jubilee plaquette, and awarded individual singers with bronze, silver and golden Gallus badges for their long dedicated work in the area of amateur culture.



On this occasion, the Zbor sv. Nikolaja choir published its new CD Sacra Religio, which contains a selection of spiritual music of Slovene and foreign composers, including two novel compositions of Damijan Močnik.
